Slomo Saturday: Shooting an Egg.

Here's a little high speed for you. It's also a reminder that even though they're called "Airsoft" BBs, they can still pack a mean punch if they're traveling at a few hundred feet per second.

Nibbled by a snail

Went out in the field with students today. We're surveying habitats for land snails and we happened to find a location with lots of large Neohelix albolabris. I picked one up and it started rasping my fingertip with its radula. So that's what it's like to be nibbled by a snail...

Em2 Hacking for Life

Experimentation continues here in the dirt lab. Today I bashed together a cordless drill, 2x4's and a few other bits to create a prototype sediment supply system for the Em2 stream table. Currently it dumps about 27g of sediment per minute, which is a little on the high end of useful.

What are you bringing?

For those of you coming to CONvergence, you may want to come to the talks taking place with the SkepchickCON.

I for one, am bringing some fossil squid. I've got a few examples - this lovely little whitish blob is a jurassic fossil from the Isle of Skye.
